Research Partners

Fisheries and Oceans Canada

The CSA and Wild Canadian Sablefish have collaborated with scientists and managers with Fisheries and Oceans Canada in co-management of the BC Sablefish fishery for over 30 years. Sablefish harvesters see the long-term benefit of sustainable fishing practices and actively engage the Canadian government in a formal collaborative agreement to support decision-making based on the requirements of the DFO Sustainable Fisheries Framework policy, the Fisheries Act, and the commercial integrated groundfish fishery. Our activities include collaboration on collecting annual stock and fishery monitoring data, stock assessment, management strategy evaluation and advising DFO on harvest decisions and management practices.
