2023-2026 - Application of the revised Sablefish MP
The Sablefish Management Procedure (MP) is applied annually to calculate a recommended catch limit for the 2023-24 through 2026-27 fishing years. Each year, landings and the coast-wide trap survey biomass index are updated, a survey-based biomass trend is estimated, and a harvest control rule is used to convert trend information into a catch limit. The maximum annual harvest rate on legal size Sablefish biomass is set to 6.4% by the MP. The fishery-independent trap survey trend increased substantially from 2015 to 2025.
